Once upon a time there was a small village surrounded by mountains, where all the inhabitants lived happily ever after. In the middle of the village stood a small shop where, despite its size, the inhabitants could find everything they needed. Next to it was a small church where a priest celebrated mass every Sunday.
In this village lived Uncle Feri, whom everyone loved very much. He was the one everyone could count on. Thanks to his great wisdom, he could talk to anyone and always give the best advice when someone had a problem.
Uncle Feri had a neat little house on the edge of the village. He also had a Christmas dream. Every year he wished that he could give presents to all the people in the village. But unfortunately, Uncle Feri didn't have much money, so he could never make his dream come true.
One year, on the evening of December 24, he decided to go to church to do a little reflection and think about life. When he got there, he saw a strange light shining in the church window. He went closer and could hardly believe his eyes: the Angel of Christmas was standing in front of him.
Uncle Feri thought he was dreaming, but then the angel spoke:
- Old man, fear not, it's only me, the Angel of Christmas. I know how much you want everyone to get a Christmas present from you, but unfortunately you don't have the money. But don't worry, I'll help you!
Uncle Feri was grateful for the angel's offer. They went to his hut, where the Angel of Christmas showed him how to make more and more delicious cakes without costing a lot of money.
Uncle Feri baked all night. It was ready in the morning. He put all the cakes in a bag, tied a pretty bow on them and even decorated them with a little pine branch. He put on his shabby coat and set off. He stopped at each house and hung as many cake packages on the door as there were people living there.
It was just dawn when he got home. He lay down in his bed, wrapped himself in his warm duvet and drifted happily off to sleep. But what he didn't know was that he had not gone unnoticed.
A few houses away, Aunt Juli was up early and standing at the window when she saw the old man giving everyone in the village a wonderful surprise. In the morning, when he was sweeping the snow from the street, he told all the passers-by what he had seen during the night. The village soon heard about Uncle Feri's deed.
It was already midday when the old man woke up. No wonder, he had worked all night to please the people of the village. But now he was surprised. When he stepped out the door, there were more presents waiting for him than he could have imagined.
While Uncle Feri was resting up from the night's toil, the grateful residents prepared a surprise for him. Some knitted gloves, others baked bejgles, the children made wonderful drawings and paintings, and some gave him a warm winter coat.
And that's how Uncle Feri's Christmas became even more wonderful than he had dreamed and a hundred times more wonderful.
