(Jérce: a young, not yet clucking young hen or similar winged animal - ed.)
Once there was a woman who had a cock and a mink. One day they went out to strawberry hunting and vowed to share what they found. Then they parted and went into the forest. Then, as he was searching, the jerkey found a strawberry and ate it.
When they were together, the rooster asked, "Well, what have you found?
- One strawberry.
- Where is it?
- I ate it.
The rooster gets angry, cuts out the jerky, takes out the strawberry and eats it.
But when he was going home, he was afraid that he would get his revenge on the woman for what he had done. And then he felt sorry for the mare.
So he ran to the seamstress to fetch thread to sew up the yérce's breast. But the seamstress told him to fetch the pig's bristle first.
So the rooster went to the pig. But the pig told him to get some oats from the thresher.
But the thresher didn't give him any either, but told him to bring him a pie from the mistress.
The rooster went to the farmer's wife to get a pie. She told him to get milk from the cow first.
He also went to the cow. But it needed grass from the meadow.
The rooster ran into the meadow, asking for grass. The meadow would not give until he asked God for rain.
The rooster then asked for rain. God gave the rain. Now he ran back with great joy:
God rain on me, I give rain to meadow; Rét gives me grass, Grass for the cow; A cow gives me milk, Milk for the wife; | Woman gives me a pie, Shroud for the thresher; The thresher gives me oats, Oats for the pig; A pig gives me beer, Bristles for the crow. |
Varga gives me a thread to sew the brisket into the mink, which then dies.
Then he sewed up the jersey breast and they became good friends again.
