Once upon a time, back in the days of the dinosaurs, this story began with the frolicking of Hopscotch, the famous caveman cat, among the huge, healthy, green trees. He was famous because he managed to hide so well from the larger predators that stalked him that, although he appears in almost every cave drawing, legend has it that he never had a hair out of place.
But what does Hupszli have to do with our story? Well, it does and it doesn't, but you kids love the age of cavemen and cavemen, so I'll continue. To be serious, in order to finally start our story and find out what Hupsli has to do with Dodi, the main character of our story, it's good to know that cavemen liked to draw all kinds of animals on their cave walls, mammoths, buffalos, moose.
Almost all of their drawings featured a strange little creature with a curved tail, pointed ears and a quirky moustache. This unusual creature seemed to be a favourite of all cavemen and cavemen's animals, as it was always beautifully carved on the wall compared to the other exaggerated pictures.
Let's jump back in time to the 21st century. Dodi and her class were on a field trip that day, visiting the Natural History Museum in a nearby town, where one of the exhibition rooms ended in a prehistoric cave. The children loved these trips, where they could see and discover things they had learned in class.
Dodi, and her best friend Mirko, were the most curious of them all, so they were often left behind. It was no different today, as they lost their companions at one bend when they became engrossed in admiring a caveman drawing.
As they looked at the ancient drawings, they suddenly noticed an unusual figure at the feet of a caveman child. Dodi watched from a distance, leaned in close, looked at the figures again from a distance, and then said to Mirko:
- I think it's a cat.
Dodi is not only a cat lover, she loves cats, and it was her tenth birthday, which is also important information for our story.
Cats could be spotted, grey, tabby, tabby, striped, red or brown, it didn't matter to the little boy, he stroked them with wide eyes wherever he met them. His parents didn't want to keep a cat, saying that keeping an animal was a big responsibility and that the boy might not be ready.
Dodi was very sad about it, but because she was very good at drawing, she started drawing cats in the dust of the road, in the waves of the stream, everywhere. She drew little ones, big ones, bows, whiskers, stripes, big bellies.
His imagination could only be ended by a quick downpour or a big wave. His parents watched the little boys' activities with growing amazement, the kittens springing to life almost out of nowhere.
But back to the museum:
- Mirko, I think it's a kitten. - Dodi whispered to her friend.
- I think it is. A caveman. I read about it in a science magazine. "It was called Hupszli," said Mirko.
Dodi was surprised to see even her favourite animal in an ancient cave drawing, and suddenly lost her balance, reaching over the railing and accidentally touching the cave drawing. As he felt the coolness of the rock with the tips of his fingers, he suddenly felt a thump.
It was as if the caveman's heart was beating at the same time as Dodi's. The little boy, stunned by the unusual sensation, stood looking at Hopsie, who even seemed to wink at him. They had formed an invisible, secret friendship.
Mirko had agreed not to tell anyone about this particular event, and when they finally caught up with the others, they just laughed and said that they had been immersed in the wonders of the museum again.
The trip ended quickly, and when Dodi returned home, her parents handed her a small box, which she only dared to open carefully. And rightly so, because the box contained nothing more than a beautiful little cat, resembling a cave drawing.
- Do you know what it will be called? - his parents asked.
- "They'll call him Hupszli," Dodi said quickly, and hugged her new boyfriend, and they have lived together ever since, in peace, happiness and great love.
